Rahul Dravid Scores Hearts, Turns down Honorary Doctorate in Order To “Earn” It

Indian cricketing legend Rahul Dravid has proven once again that he is a class-act both on and off the field by declining an honorary doctorate degree because he wants to “earn” it by himself.

Bangalore University had contacted the retired cricketer with plans to confer him with an honorary doctorate on January 27, 2017 during the university’s 52nd Annual Convocation Ceremony.

News of this came to light when Bangalore University published a press release noting that while Rahul Dravid had thanked them for this honour, he had declined to accept it.

Dravid has also expressed to the university that he would wish to pursue academic research related to sports and would like to earn his doctorate. While the man who was dubbed “The Wall”, has characteristically not publicly commented on this subject, it has not stopped the outpouring of respect and affection from his fans from across the world.

Many have taken to social media to applaud this understated yet impressive gesture.

It isn’t clear if Dravid has already started preparations to pursue PhD but he has been busy since his retirement from international cricket mentoring young and aspiring cricket players in India.
