Very very important if you are a Kamma your life would be at lap of luxury. 
If you are a kamma you would be pampered by fellow Kammas. You get discount on goods purchased from kamma stores, you’ll have a lot of recreational activity,but hey only Kamma’s invited.
If you are a Kamma you would get speedy promotions and transfers if you are working in government department because in Andhra its Kamma government now. As many others mentioned, you would also get good internal marks and collage seats.

Very much infact. Having lived in the place for 5 years, and being in one of Siddhartha Institutions, and being a non-kamma (non-kapu too), I see many unhealthy practices. Teachers giving marks after enquiring about family names and tails in the name, students given admissions (in management quotas) based on caste lines, teachers making caste groups, caste groups fighting even for songs (of other caste heroes) being played in college days, I have seen them all. Yes, the people here (atleast those around me) feel caste is very very important.

Vijayawada is exception. Kosta is not all about vijayawada. Just oka 10 miles Vij dati velte, no one cares about the caste. My village is 30 miles from Vij and it is famous for faction. Epudu ma intlo kani ma relatives intlo kani caste gurinchi matladala.

I never lived in vijayawada, relatives kuda leru akkada so I can't take about that place. Nellore lo inter, rest of education vizag and surrounding. Hyd from last 10 yrs.  Us vachaaka Anta stories vinadam thappa I never faced any of those. Ippudu okadu vachi mee AP lo Anni towns lo inthey anta kadha antey nenu ela respond avvali? Yes Ani accept cheyyala?
