H1B lottery update

Copied from another website : I hope this is useful .

I reported yesterday that we received our first receipt notices in the mail after seeing some filing fee checks cashed late last week. We are continuing to receive I-797 Receipt Notices for those selected in the Advanced Degree cap (masters cap) from both Vermont Service Center and California Service Center.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • This process of sending receipts, cashing checks, updating systems, etc takes time. I expect this to go one for the next 4 weeks so don’t worry if you haven’t heard something on your petition yet.
  • If you are looking for information regarding when you can expect your receipt notice based on the type of petition you filed, check out my free timeline at: http://immigrationgirl.com/lottery/
  • If you were notified by your employer or attorney that a receipt notice has been received, that means your petition was selected in the lottery. USCIS only sends receipts to those that were selected.
  • We have started seeing filing fee checks cashed in the bank. If yours was not cashed, that doesn’t mean you weren’t selected. The timing of the check cashing versus the receipt notices is very inconsistent.
  • I have received word that receipts are starting to show up in SEVIS now as well.

As of 11:30 am central time this morning:

We have received I-797 receipt notices in 4% of our cases filed as AD/VT (Advanced Degree-masters / Vermont Service Center)

We have received I-797 receipt notices  in 16% of our cases filed as AD/CA (Advanced Degree-masters / California Service Center)

We have not received any notices for Regular Cap (Bachelor’s) cases.
