Anta scene ledu majority of the high functioning kids are fine. They talk a little late but they are usually very intelligent. It is the severely effected kids that will have a problem with independent living, but they are very few like 1 in 100.

Ayinodchu.. can only say from what I saw. If the kid starts talking and responding well, do they say that they are no longer autistic? Why is this coming up so much in the current generation and not before?

Cousin's son is 3.5 year old and having speech delay issues.Just started speaking 3 word sentences .Doctors said he is mildly autistic as he speech is not up to age level and also lacking social/play skills. But academically he is good. They have been sending him to ABA/speech therapies for last 4 months but not much progress.India pampiste for 6months- 1year emaina improvement untunda or its better to continue therapies here. Please advice

speech delay in kids could be due to so many reasons. First of all parents involvement. they have to interact with kids a lot and thats how they develop personality and speech.  Most of the kids here miss crucial part. In India, we don't face this problems due to frequent interactions with parents, grand parents, friends and neighbors. Another thing is the "confusion" due to two languages. We all speak telugu or Indian accent English. That creates a lot of confusion and sort of culture shock to our kids.

Medical reasons- tonsillar hypertrophy - recent finding in kids with speech delay - check if the kid is snoring while sleeping and also check if he/she gasping for air while sleeping. Check for hyperactivity, frequent temper tantrums, getting fidgety for small things - this could be "obstructive sleep apnea" due to big tonsils but misleads the parents and pediatricians and frequently they suspect big diagnoses such as autism, ADHD, etc...

Speech delay is just one of the symptoms of autism and not necessary for diagnosis. Poor social interaction, behavioral problems are the predominant features of autism. Particularly, in Indian kids speech delay is mostly due to language confusion.
