Kattappa kills bahubali coz he supports, loves and marries Princess Devasena of a tribal kingdom...which is considered threat to Mahishmati kingdom.

Bhalla and Bahu both fell in love with Devasena..during their hunting for pleasure trip.. when Bhalla realizes Devasena chose Bahu.. he shifts gears, supports his brothers moves and helps them get married.. while simultaneously Bhalla and his father showing it as a threat and wrong act of Bahu to Shivagami... Shivagami orders RajyaBahishkarana for whoever marries Devasena. Bahu is expelled from Mahishmathi...

meanwhile Kalakeya's brother (played by Subbaraju) attacks mahishmathi.. Bhalla sends his loyal troops to be part of Kalakeya's army as Bahubali's army. Knowing about the attack Bahubali goes to resuce Mahismathi. leaving his pregnant wife.. Bhalla makes Shivagami believe that Bahu is attacking Mahishmathi coz they expelled him. Shivagami doesn't want this internal war and to put an end to this ..Orders Kattappa to Kill Bahubali (Dharmam or Adharmam way). Kattappa fights the already severly injured Bahubali and Kattappa realizes during the fight that Bahu is trying to protect Mahishmathi and tries to save Bahubali. Meanwhile Bhalla enters the scene and reminds Kattappa of the orders..  Bahubali wants to die in the hands of Kattappa rather than Kalakeya's Army  or Bhalla.  

Kattappa kills Bahubali from back as per Shivagami's Orders and Bahu's request while Bahu almost finishes enemies.

War ends.. Bahu is gone. Shivagami comes to know the truth from Kattappa. she confronts Bhalla and Bijjala deva..and declares Bahus son as next King of Mahishmathi...  Bhalla orders to kill Shivagami and Bahu's son. He wants Devasena as his slave. Shivagami fails to save Devasena but flees with Mahendra bahubali.. she ends her life protecting Mahendra bahubali...

Finally Mahendra takes revenge on Bhalla with the help of armies from his tribal friends, Devasena's loyal troops, Kattappa's troops and Kabuli army.
