13 feared dead as boat capsizes in Anantapur

Thirteen members of a family including four women and two children are feared dead when the boat they were travelling in capsized in the Erratimma Raju lake of Guntakal block of Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday afternoon.

According to preliminary reports 20 people were in the boat at the time of the accident. Locals say that two children were saved by the onlookers who noticed the boat sinking in the middle of the lake.

All the 20 members had arrived at the house of one Ramayya to attend a temple related function in the nearby village. They all wanted to take a ride in the lake nearby and took the old boat without checking its strength.

Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock and directed the district collector to initiate rescue operations.
