tennisluvr Posted June 13, 2017 Report Posted June 13, 2017 I have an older laptop which I don't use much, primarily use it for backing up my data. I haven't used it for 3-4 months now and when I opened it last week, saw a message saying that "Windows is repairing your PC", waited 2 days but nothing happened even after that. I used a Windows 10 recovery disk and tried to repair it using that but didn't help as it was trying to install a fresh version of Windows but was unable to repair the damaged one. Another message that comes up frequently while this repair is going on is "Windows drive unmountable". Anyway my question is, has anyone come across this situation? If so is there a way for me to recover my data since I still have the HD with all the data I need on it? If you get this done professionally, how much can we expect to pay for this? Experts, please throw some light on this. Quote
sanjaysahu Posted June 13, 2017 Report Posted June 13, 2017 buy an external usb enclosure , unhook HDD connect it using the enclosure , connect to another laptop , backup the data... Then see if u can format and reinstall OS ... if not , try using some data recovery software like https://www.easeus.com/data-recovery-software/ Quote

I am okay with using a data recovery software to recover my data if I reformat the HD, and I have done this in the past but it's been a while and I am a bit skeptical about this now. Will try backing it up into another computer though. Quote
