lazybugger Posted June 21, 2017 Report Posted June 21, 2017 Loook up the Poona Pact. and how the quintessential Hindutva icon - Mahatma Gandhi, forced Ambedkar into agreeing to reverse separate electorates that britishers awarded to the dalits. In its place, reservations was proposed. So this solution doesn't even begin to address the problem dalits face, is something that doesn't need to be said. similar solution was proposed for muslims, and was again thwarted by Hindutva vaadis that led to partition of India. Not that I didn't mind the partition. Indian kids should also learn how Hindutva leaders of the 1950s hoodwinked the south into joining the union. Madras should've refused to join. India doesn't deserve to be one country. and won't be for long. Quote

He strongly opposed a hindu raj in the country. He was for secular India, although the definition of Indian secularism is different than of western. Quote

I can understand why you think Gandhi is not Hindutva icon. because the guys who call themselves Hindutva worship those who killed Gandhi. but they were the reactionaries at that time. Congress was a pure Hindutva party until Indira Gandhi, and even after her demise, until Italian Sonia came into power. Gandhi used his religion to reach the masses. He was extremely popular only among hindus. He is no way a secular. Jinnah was secular. but even couldn't stop Pakistan from becoming what it became. Quote
