The battle between the King Kong and Godzilla of retail has moved into the cloud.

Wal-Mart WMT -0.57% Stores Inc. is telling some technology companies that if they want its business, they can’t run applications for the retailer on Amazon.com Inc.’sAMZN +0.10% leading cloud-computing service, Amazon Web Services, several tech companies say.

Good question. I think it is only private. If they want to provide it *As-a-service, they probably need to invest and sacrifice some profits, which I think is big risk considering they have very thin margins and they worry about dividends for greedy shareholders.

how much of the infrastructure (physical) that Amazon controls, does it own? Amazon just has a better way of doing the business anthey. It has nothing to do with greedy shareholders.

Technically Walmart spreads the value it creates around through dividends. Amazon spreads it by building more infrastructure. each has its own benefits.

Market share for AWS is 44%.

I said greedy just to make Amazon shareholders look better. Ultimately, every shareholder wants teh returns. its just that Amazon shareholders are encouraging its startup culture, at least for now
