lazybugger
how many cubans are working in IT in US. tell me that first ani asking db members. one guy actually asked this when I said that middle east (except oil rich countries) people on average are more educated and skilled than Indians all these countries, cuba, middle east live under dictatorships. I prefer to be born in Syria, in Rojava. fighting against ISIS/Syrian govt alongside Kurdish army, probably manufacturing guns or some other weapons systems. yes, what cuba did with their medical system is amazing. and the average doctor there earns only about 1% of what he'd in the US. demolishes a lot of assumptions that people hold about what motivates people. people simply accept the system they are familiar with. If its capitalist, they follow it. If its socialist, they follow it. as long as they are allowed to do their job without much problems , they won't try to change it. well off Indians simply do not care about Indians who aren't well off, for things to change in India. At best, they'll donate to gofundme, and feel good about themselves. that's all.
lazybugger
Indians live in many different bubbles. The worst is the one that calls itself middle class, because its the biggest bubble, and one that is going to pop one day, exposing it for the nothingness that it is. dakumangalsingh
I think one such drug is enough for Cuba to be as rich and developed as one of the Nordic countries.

lazybugger
Just now, dakumangalsingh said: I think one such drug is enough for Cuba to be as rich and developed as one of the Nordic countries. how do you think this 'drug' business works? It doesn't work in a socialist set up like Cuba. americans will simply refuse to give FDA approval, and the rest of the world negotiates prices just like Cuba does. There's not much money in drugs, unless you have an insurance system like in the US/India.

Unless the so called big countries out play Cuba and stop it from getting prosperous.

Unless the so called big countries out play Cuba and stop it from getting prosperous. the big countries won't have to stop Cuba from getting prosperous. Cuba has chosen a system that will stop it from ever getting prosperous. Nordic countries are democratic socialist countries. Cuba is a pure socialist country where there's no such thing as private property. huge huge difference. Cuba will never become prosperous. At the same time cubans will always have better healthcare than the rest of the world.

lazybugger
I think you are unclear of what exactly is happening in Cuba. Their innovations are to make their people better. and not to make money out of it. The way they think itself is radically different from what we are used to. lazybugger
Cuba is like USSR of the Stalin era. does wonderful work in some areas where people traditionally work without bothering to compete. USSR did some amazing research in physics, maths, healthcare, etc. and some govt funded military applied research. but the system fails when it requires cooperation of a vast network of resources to produce basic necessities. Like in manufacturing. The drugs they invent will not make them any money, because they refuse to open their market for overseas companies. Other countries will also refuse to open their market for their drug, unless cuba is willing to provide it for dirt cheap price.
lazybugger
The economics of a socialist system is mind numbing. Don't even know how cuba made it this far, without breaking down. I definitely do not want to live there.
