raikkonen Posted August 3, 2017 Report Posted August 3, 2017 30k is a lot of money to spend on a car(that too on a CRV). Carmax has a 5-year warranty on any car they sell up to 125k miles(for a little extra dough of course). For example, https://www.carmax.com/car/14517427. It is owned in TX and FL so no snow. 39k miles for a CRV is nothing. And you can buy a warranty(in case you need it) for 5 years upto125k miles for like a 1500 extra. (check with them if you are interested). Also if the vehicle is not in your area, they will transport it at a nominal charge. Do not discount used cars. You are not taking the depreciation hit(like new cars). For a CRV, personally, I wouldn't even buy a warranty. They are solid cars. You can find great used cars on autotrade.com. Look for private sellers nearby. Deal with them(private sellers) directly and get it properly inspected by a trusted mechanic before handing over the check. Ya its a bit of a hassle than CarMax but you avoid unnecessary nonsense like dealership fees that regular dealers charge and can save at least 2k compared to CarMax. A side note, because of the cheap gas price, crossovers(like the CRV which are nothing but sedans on stilts) are all the rage these days. No one is buying sedans and they are discounted highly at dealerships.(A friend of mine told me that new Toyota Camrys are hugely discounted). Shop around if you like any big family sedan. Point is to save money, isn't it? Happy car hunting!. Quote
