rrc_2015 Posted August 5, 2017 Report Posted August 5, 2017 On Saturday, Roja made an unsavoury comment on the dressing of Andhra Pradesh tourism minister Akhila Priya, whose cousin Bhuma Brahmanand Reddy is contesting the by-elections to Nandyal assembly seat on the Telugu Desam Party ticket. Reacting to Akhila Priya’s comment about lack of culture in the criticism of YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy against chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Roja shot back saying Akhila had no right to talk about the culture. “In fact, you have no respect to the Indian culture. You don’t wear sarees, but move among the people shamelessly by wearing chudidar and pyjama. You went to the assembly within 24 hours of the cremation of your father’s body for the sake of cabinet post. And you talk about culture and traditions?” Roja asked. She also referred to Akhila as another pappu, following the footsteps of her ministerial colleague Nara Lokesh. Had it been any other male politician, such comments on Akhila Priya’s dress would have been described as sexist remarks and raised a lot of hue and cry. And by the way, what is wrong with Akhila Priya’s dress? It is typically Indian and a lot of people from north to south wear chudidar and pyjama. In fact, it is more comfortable for working women than saree. Even woman IAS officers wear this dress. Secondly, did Roja forget what sort of dresses she had worn when she was acting in films? Even now, her attire in television reality shows looks indecent for many people. So, it is better Roja confine herself to political criticism, rather than making personal attacks, lest it would boomerang not only on her personal career, but also on the party itself! Quote
