But, as with any herb or spice, use saffron in moderation, especially when you're pregnant. Studies show that saffron may reduce blood pressure and mood swings. In large doses, saffron can act as a uterine stimulant and could cause contractions. Traditionally, saffron is believed to be healing in nature. It's commonly used as a muscle relaxant. It may help relieve stomach aches too. Some pregnant mums use it to improve digestion and increase their appetite. Quote
