vadu pakka shop vadiki 800 ivvadu 1000 isthadu... so 1000 + sold goods vi 200...

he takes 1000 change from the neighbour already... so there is no loss/gain against neighbour... all he loses is 800 change to the lady and 200 in goods, total 1000

Change taken by the shopkeeper = money returned to neighbour

Hisaab barabar

loss = 200 (in goods) + money given to lady (800) = 1000

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the only confusion in this  problem is : people confuse that 800 taken by the lady is the money given by the neighbour, not the shopkeepers money..

A lady buys goods worth 200 rupees from the shopkeeper. The goods were reasonable quality merchandise sold for what the market would bear.

The lady gives the shopkeeper a 1000-rupee note. The shopkeeper runs out of change, and gets change from the next shop. He keeps the 200 rupees (for selling the goods) and returns 800 to the lady. Later the neighbour comes back with the 1000-rupee note, proving it's a fake, tearing it up and demanding his money back.

How much did the shopkeeper lose?

Total Loss $2,000... Here is my calculation:

Sold Goods: $200

Change to customer: $800

Returned Money Back to Neighbor: $1,000

Correct answer is 1000

until the neighbor came and ask for 1000, the shopkeeper has no loss.

When he returned 1000 back then he got 1000 loss.

Sold Goods Money :$200 dollars worth - shopkeeper has them

Change to customer : Same 800 he took from the neighbor

Returned money back to neighbor : Is the only loss $1000.
