uttermost Posted November 1, 2017 Report Posted November 1, 2017 more interesting than these silly princes, is the state of Madras which wanted to form its own country, because it was administered separately in the Raj. I wish the case for a separate country was pressed more then. Quote

uttermost Posted November 1, 2017 Report Posted November 1, 2017 If there were a referendum conducted in Hyd state, the state would have vote to join the Indian union. its perhaps true of every princely state, except north east tribes, that fought a long and bloody war into the 80s. against the Indian state. uttermost Posted November 1, 2017 Report Posted November 1, 2017 Can you imagine the exhilaration people felt at the time of independence. pretty sure the sentiment was prevalent in princely states too. if the princes didn't give up their throne, not only do they have to face the Indian army, but also rebels from their kingdoms, who wanted to join India. What a promise India held for these people. and what a disappointment it has become. Quote
