ICO is very much similar to IPO in which companies (mostly internet firms) raise capital (like crowdfunding)by offering tokens instead of shares. You can trade those tokens later as securities in secondary market or use them to access the company's resources as preferred member. Keep in mind, ICO is unregulated, which means more risk than traditional shares. SEC is working on some controls but if you see a company that has potential and offers ICO, try it. Quote
