fixed deposits & mutual funds in india

naku fd idea undi kani mutual funds idea ledu.. planning to invest 5Lakhs. basically transfer from fd to mutual fund as i heard it is more profitable. can you guys give your views. 

fd lo aithe fixed interest and sbi lo undi so secure. is mf also so secure and fixed interest kind untaya. i havent done my homework yet so  if there is any dumb questions involved here. I'm reading it over this weekend.
