I'd say Rahul took the right decision. Rahul showed amazing sense of purpose in suspending him from the party, and it helps to have leaders such as Rahul. but when you are wrestling with a pig, how can you insist that you won't get yourself dirty?

Also it will discourage casteist morons inside the Congress party. So its an overall win for Congress in the long term, but probably won't help them win elections.
