No special status will be granted for MAVNIs who have fallen out of status. 

However you are eligible to apply for DA(Deferred Action) but that takes anywhere from 8-10 months to be granted these days. You might ship before your DA gets approved, you can also file for a EAD during this wait time but the approval rate is less than 10% after a 10 month waiting period.

No this isn't a news to congratulate them on, it's just more waiting for them. I guess better than being thrown out of the US and kicked out, however it's still more waiting for most of them.

His best bet is to contact his recruiting station or talk to his Unit Commander.
