Big universities want big names basic ga.. there are many talented people, but there are very few rich people.

Every top University wants additional money to protect its endowment and make it better by building new facilities etc. Better facilities means brighter students. So they are willing to let 1-2 dumb students sit in class who bring lot of cash. We call them payment seats in India but here every univ uses its own term. Some call it "development cases"

Sony CEO tried to get his daughter into Harvard, or Brown but the mistake he made, he was not straight about asking a favor. He tried to make it seem like a proper admit but then caught when someone leaked all the conversations. 

If you want the admission, donate the money that makes the Univ real happy. No negotiations.
