The Rs 187.50-crore project is expected to ease traffic congestion on roads leading to Jubilee Hills Road No 36, Road No 45, HITEC City, Financial District and Gachibowli.

Hyderabad: Work on the suspension bridge across Durgam Cheruvu picked up pace and samples of the cables being used for the bridge have been sent to a special lab in Germany for a fatigue test. A fatigue test is done to determine the behaviour of materials under different conditions.

A couple of engineers from L&T are also in Germany and the results are expected in a week, a senior official from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) said. These are special tests done before executing the final works and the idea is to ensure safety of the structure with high-quality precision, the official said.

The bridge is being constructed to facilitate smooth flow of traffic in Jubilee Hills and neighbouring areas. The Rs 187.50-crore project is expected to ease traffic congestion on roads leading to Jubilee Hills Road No 36, Road No 45, HITEC City, Financial District and Gachibowli.

Thirteen pillars are to be constructed as part of the project and the foundation for these is complete. Presently, concrete foundation works are under way at Madhapur and the other end, the official said.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao laid the foundation for the works on April 26 and the works are to be completed in December 2018. As per initial plans, the Extra-dosed Cable Stayed Bridge is likely to take off from the existing junction near I-labs (Inorbit Mall end) and deflects to the left near the parking area of Telangana Tourism Department and crosses over Durgam Cheruvu. From there, the bridge turns left near the lake’s walking track and passes along the hillock and turns right to join Jubilee Hills Road No 45 at Ambedkar Open University entrance.

Hyderabad: Work on the proposed suspension bridge across Durgam Cheruvu is gaining steam with excavation works of five out of the 13 pillars for the bridge being completed. Concrete foundation works are currently under way at Madhapur.

Among the 13 pillars, two pillars are to be constructed in the middle of the lake, which is an engineering challenge for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials. Accordingly, they are constructing two temporary coffer dams on the riverbank to ensure there is no hindrance to the work.
