The move is part of a host of key projects that will be grounded in the coming days to facilitate smooth flow of traffic in different areas in and around the city. Over Rs 2,900 crore has been sanctioned to construct a steel bridge, flyover and elevated rotary among other projects. To begin with, efforts are on to extend the PVNR Expressway from Aramgarh to Shamshabad while the foundation for the nearly Rs 1,000 crore flyover from Uppal to Narapally will be laid shortly. The National Highways Authority of India will be executing the PVNR Expressway extension, while the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will be grounding a few other projects. A senior official from GHMC said the extension of PVNR Expressway to Shamshabad will aid in reaching the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport faster. Though the existing expressway facilitates in reaching Aramgarh quite easily, there is a need to extend the Expressway till Shamshabad keeping in view the increasing traffic, he said. The works will be executed using pre-cast structures to avoid any inconvenience to road users, he said.Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao said the focus was on improving road infrastructure and ensure smooth flow of traffic movement in the city. A steel bridge is being planned from VST to Indira Park at an estimated cost of Rs 426 crore. All the road works this year will be taken up using the latest technology to ensure longevity. These works will be executed in two phases to avoid traffic issues, the Minister said. “The government is answerable to the people and all the works are being taken up in a phased manner,” he said.
