Immig Reforms :Outcome Possibilities and action plan ?

Posted by bondedlabor1
We are already hearing a lot of bad news about immigrants and it will only get worse, not because of any changes in law, but because of fear and uncertainty ..

Overall agenda of this administration is to kick out all the immigrants, legal or otherwise, and severely restrict the new arrivals using some pretext.
They can easily get rid of backlogged immigrants using some or combination of changes.
Legal immigrants are easy political targets as most are from India or China, and they don't represent a really big vote bank.
Undocumented folks are getting lucky as they collectively are a really big vote bank, and this is evident as system is going about DACA resolved.

Almost all rules proposed are designed to mess up the existing petitioners and make it extremely difficult for them. Though none of these have even passed, they have already done the damage as employers will be worried and confused.

--Current Stuck Immigrants : H-1B rule changes
Almost all rules proposed are designed to mess up the existing petitioners and disqualify them. Though none of these have even passed, they have already done the damage as employers will be worried and confused. Last year they suspended Premium processing. This year changes are done to job classification, visa allocation, sponsor registrations etcs. By creating doubts and confusion, administration wants to simply "self choke the system" and get rid of people without costs of firing or relocation ..

-- Future Immigrants : RAISE ACT
Raise ACT is façade to attract and retain highly talented immigrant. However, the objective is to get only very young candidates with higher education from mostly European nation (desi folks can sail through anything) It will be used to dis-qualify all existing immigrants who are waiting..
* In this point based system, there are no points to those who have already spent years contributing to US via work, tax and spending. Combined with h1B rule changes, they will try to kick out waiting resources and rob them of their savings of Social Security ( which will be reformed in coming year.).
It will get passed with some changes as Dems will have no choice in Round 2.

Round 1 : DACA related
Current Immigration reform fight will not help Legali immigrants.

Dems and GOP will have following Negotiation Points to haggle over.

Agenda : Republicans Want : Dems Want : Maybe agree on
---------------- -------------------------- ---------------------- -----------------------
Wall : Full Wall : No Wall : Border reinforcement
Undocumented : Deportation of all : Full Citizenship : No citizenship - no benefits , work permits only
DACA : Time out : Citizenship : Renewable Work permit or Go through RAISE ACT for GC ..stay and live

Outcome :: Current admin will get their way. Dems will loose again and try to show to votebank that they saved DACA. Dems will take their fight to saving 11million on docs. Republicans will foolishly tom tom that they got DACA but Hispanics will not buy.

Round 2 : Comprehensive Reform (All changes to country cap, visa selection , Raise act or any other named act)

In the current haggling, current admin will leave legal reform out to be settle with Undocuments folks (yes once again we are bargain chips for getting vote bank appeasement )
Agenda : Republicans Want : Dems Want : Maybe agree on
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
H1B Legal : Reduce & Self Deport : Sell them for Undocs : Higher bar. Country cap removed
Undocumentd folkss : Deport : citizenship : Work permit renewable for long time,No citizenship. Get to live with family and work here.

Outcome : Undocs will stay as Dems will throw rights of legal immigrants under the bus (vote bank politics)

What to do :
1) Here we legal immigrants (from India and china) need to find allies in Congress and Senate to represent our voices.
We should reach out to India Caucus and China working groups. These are 2 big groups whose Senator should put in our sentiments.

https://uschinaworkinggroup-larsen.house.gov

2) Directly contact the local congressman and senator from respective states. We can drop a note about our concerns. This will only help to make them all aware that we contribute to their constituencies.

3) Indian government should do more to impress upon current administration, through lobbying. There are huge amount to be gained by mutual beneficial policies. There are lots and lots of things that can be put on table, if only government seizes the moment.
