Fantastic idea. I did not implement but knowing how to find if items are getting close to finish is a challenge.  You can use load cells but that's complex and costly. Let's see if other people have any ideas.

Preparing list based on expiry date should be relatively simple.

Okko switch $4 something untadi you can directly connect to mains and daantlo inbuilt wifi undhi 

i am using it, malli y to root???

it works with alexa, but google assistance is not supporting it yet

 

alexa+sonoff is a cheap way to automate(voice) your home

i have a samsung smartthing 

planing to integrate sonooff + samsumg smart things + google home

yes manual switch kea sonoff ni loop chesthav 

i think you need a ground wire for sonoff

 

get an electrician and ask him to pull a ground wire 

and make your box bigger so that you can put sonoff behind the box and conceal it

Bro did you add manual switch as well? If yes can you post some rough sketch
