Buying home in Richmond/Northern VA

Thinking about buying a home in Richmond within 400k range.

I also have an option to move to NOVA area. There I will have to get a townhome for 450-500k.

People from Virginia... please suggest which is better.

I saw few resales in Brambleton around 500k. Freind bought a town home with 2.8k sft in brambleton a year back for 450k. Zillow shows current value as 480k.

Not sure what size units you are looking at.
