28 September, 2002 Salman Khan’s white Land Cruiser crashed into American Express Bakery on Hill Road junction in Bandra, allegedly running over five footpath dwellers, killing one and seriously injuring four others. Witness claimed that it was Salman behind the wheels, though the actor has vehemently denied it. Police arrested the actor with hit and run charges for fleeing away from the crime the scene. Though few reports claim that Salman surrendered himself, the family has denied it.

29 September, 2002 Salman Khan got bail in the hit and run case.

2 May,2003 Court rejects Salman Khan’s plea to drop the serious charge of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, framed against him.

3 October, 2007 Salman Khan’s former bodyguard and prime witness Ravindra Patil died of tuberculosis at the age of 38. He had claimed that it was Salman indeed who was driving the car and had advised him not to drive rashly in drunk state. Later, the bodyguard changed his statement as he was unsure if Salman was drunk or not.

22 May,2010 A doctor who tested Salman’s blood claimed that Mr Khan was indeed drunk. It was a major setback for the Dabangg star in the hit and run case

24 July. 2013 Salman was charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

24 November, 2014 Public prosecutor requests the court to fast track the hit and run case, as the case had been stretched for 12 long years already.

22 January, 2015 The doctor took a U-turn in his statement and said that Salman was not in influence of alcohol but he did smell like alcohol.

8 March, 2015 Salman Khan’s dead bodyguard Ravindra Patil’s statements were dragged back in court, as the court ordered that the evidence of Salman’s dead bodyguard can be used.

18 March, 2015 Court accepted documents which stated that Salman did not have a driving or liquor license back in 2002.

28 March, 2015 Court accepts Salman’s plea for no media coverage in the hit and run case hence forth.

30 March, 2015 Salman’s driver Ashok Singh admits the crime; claims it was him and not Salman who was behind the wheel. The driver also stated that the accident occurred because of tire burst.

14 April, 2015 Public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat stated that the driver Ashok Singh is lying and is nothing but a dummy witness. The prosecutor argued that till now only three people were said to be in the car ( Salman, Kamal Khan, Salman’s ex bodyguard Ravindra Patil) and now the defense lawyer  is just trying to save the superstar by bringing driver Ashok Singh in picture.

18 April, 2015 Salman’s lawyer claimed that the actor was present at the spot of accident for almost 10 minutes before he left, contrary to the belief that he fled the spot as soon as the mishap took place. Also lawyer  Shrikant Shivade stated that the footpath dwellers got injured coz the crane dropped the car when it came to lift the Land Cruiser from spot of accident.
