uttermost Posted April 8, 2018 Report Posted April 8, 2018 https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/apr/05/brazilians-still-hold-great-affection-for-lula-despite-corruption-conviction?CMP=share_btn_tw On Thursday, the supreme court rejected the former president’s plea to avoid prison while he appeals a corruption conviction, in a move that likely ends his political career and deepens divisions in Brazil. But many poorer Brazilians argue that if Lula was involved in any graft, it was less than other politicians, and he did more for the least wealthy people than anyone else. Lula has said he is innocent and the charges are politically motivated to prevent him from running for president again. Jucineide de Lima, 46, a maid who lives in a favela in Recife, the capital of Lula’s home state of Pernambuco, said: “Who never did anything wrong? He is the only one I would vote for.” Lula’s governments introduced a series of measures to increase the number of people from Brazil’s badly funded public sector schools studying at universities. The University for Everyone programme, created by a 2005 law, provided scholarships at private universities. New federal universities were opened and admission procedures streamlined. Quote
uttermost Posted April 8, 2018 Author Report Posted April 8, 2018 excuse for the reactionary elements in the society, mostly upper middleclass (like the assholes in this db), to regain power lost to the lower classes. Quote
uttermost Posted April 8, 2018 Author Report Posted April 8, 2018 important to note that, the politician (Lula) was not defeated by the ballot, by a interparty coup. democracy suddenly becomes inconvenient to those who feel the pinch of lost power. Quote
uttermost Posted April 8, 2018 Author Report Posted April 8, 2018 We see it in the case of branding of YSR as the 'most corrupt' - inspite of his popularity among masses. and Jayalalitha, Laloo Yadav etc. Quote
uttermost Posted April 8, 2018 Author Report Posted April 8, 2018 these 'middle classes' conveniently forget that corruption is unavoidable part of politics when they have to viciously target a particular leader who dared to lift people out of poverty, for corruption. Quote
uttermost Posted April 8, 2018 Author Report Posted April 8, 2018 On the whole, the entire platform of anti-corruption in politics, and those who support that platform are distilled assholes. fcuking sociopathic scumbags, who want people below them to suffer and rot. Quote
uttermost Posted April 8, 2018 Author Report Posted April 8, 2018 but then most humans are naturally sociopathic scumbags. Its the rare few who are decent and nice people. Its perfectly okay to hate people in general with a passion. Its probably even healthy, as long as you are not forced to interact with them, and learn of their bigoted views. I just wish they stop pretending that they are decent. Its not going to happen, I know. Quote
