Agreed, they are called bimaru states. They are the worst in all development indices.

But North doesnt mean only 2 states. Punjab/Haryana have a unique flavor. Rajasthan has got its own, Gujarat is different.

Women are treated the same everywhere in India, of course its very worst in

Obviously, historically UP,Bihar, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana bore the brunt of foreign invasions via Turkish, Persian, Mughal invasions and then French, British invasions later. Wars and revolts tho total gaa unstable  ainaayi. Plus religious conversions. So much so that Half of Bengal became 90% Islamic and half of North-West India became Pakistan.

South India was mostly free from invasions - but we have caste issues, thats a different issue altogether. Obviously South developed well. Anthe gaani maree antha yemi peekudu gaallu yemi kadhule.
