Fuel prices at all-time high in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The fuel price graph is still on the rise, with new highs being touched every day.

Prices of petrol and diesel have reached all-time highs in the city, with petrol prices just a few days away from touching the Rs.80 a litre mark, pegged at Rs.79.04 on Wednesday. Diesel prices too have touched a record high of Rs.71.63.

Hyderabad now is among the top five cities in the country where petrol is the most expensive, with only Mumbai, Bhopal, Jalandhar and Patna ahead of it. The petrol prices per litre in other major cities like Bengaluru stood at Rs 75.82, Chennai at Rs 77.43, Mumbai at Rs 82.48, New Delhi at 74.63, Jaipur at Rs 77.32 and Lucknow at Rs 75.83.

The fuel prices, which have been on a constant rise ever since the daily price revision system came into vogue last year, saw the price of petrol going up by Rs 1.96 in the last one month while that of diesel went up by Rs 2.47 in the same period. The last six months saw diesel prices going up by Rs 9.54 while the petrol prices rose by Rs 6.38 in six months.

Rajiv Amaram, president of Telangana Petroleum Dealers Association said that with the huge hike on diesel, there will be an indirect impact on transporting goods and the cost of essential commodities would go up.

“Going by the fuel hike over the last one month, price of petrol is likely to touch Rs 80 per litre soon. Already, the diesel price has recorded an all-time high in the city. Earlier, the difference between petrol and diesel used to be above Rs 15 and now, both the prices are coming close to each other,” he said.

Irked over the continuous hike in diesel price, K Shivaiah, a truck owner in Ranigunj said that if the prices keep rising, it would lead to inflation in prices of essential commodities. “January turned to be a spoilsport on our daily income as suddenly over Rs 4 was hiked on diesel in a month”, he added.
