I think you are going on emirates. If so to my knowledge you dont need valid US visa.

I went through the same route  with out VISA  once. You actually doesn't even get out of the gate and wont change the flight too. They stop there for fuel or technical assistance.

Instead of being in the flight you can just get down for an hour and roam around the gate.  I bought liquor there and was cheaper than Dubai
