an old gentleman I met recently told me that 70s was the start of hindutva in politics. and he was in his 30s, watched all of his friends turn into rabid dogs. and while the focus was on JP and communist movements in India, Hindutva made a big impression on the young of 70s, who are all now in their 50s, and 60s.

ofcourse most of these politics happened in North India.

Caste is just a tag for most of the educated people. But they play that card in various different places to defend their nonsense, IMO.
