Lukewalker Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 1) aws, azure, one automation tool, one scripting language, one appserver, jenkins etc - you are golden. 2) practice in linux academy, do aws certification 3) $80+ (to employer) for contracting. Fte no idea. Quote

tennisluvr Posted May 29, 2018 Report Posted May 29, 2018 I did the same bro. Got 2 associate certificates done on AWS, now preparing to learn the Google cloud. Good idea, I would say learning AWS isn't that difficult as it's fairly easy to read the White papers and understand how to provision the cloud environment etc. Better yet be very strong at a scripting language, I would suggest Python but you can go with Ruby if you prefer that. Perl is a bit outdated so don't recommend that. And don't think you can call yourself good with automation just by knowing how to write shell scripts. It's a toss up between Python and Ruby for now. Also learn about one no SQL database preferably MongoDB, this is what I have done myself. That should be a decent start, even if you get a position that pays say $70/hr to your employer take it up. Once you have two years of Cloud implementation experience behind you, you can easily crack positions that pay upto $100/hr or even more. The better you are at automation the more you can demand and get paid. Quote
