‘Rs. 500 cr. deposited in co-op bank where Amit Shah is director’

BENGALURU:, DECEMBER 31, 2016 00:00 IST
UPDATED: DECEMBER 31, 2016 03:56 IST

The former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Friday alleged that a decision to ban cooperative banks from doing business was taken three days after Rs. 500 crore was deposited in the Ashram Road Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank, in which BJP national president Amit Shah is a director. The District Cooperative bank allegedly got a whopping Rs. 500 crore deposit just after the note ban. “Only three days after this amount was deposited in the bank, the ban was imposed on cooperative banks,” he said. Addressing presspersons at the party office here, he said, “Banning cooperative banks from doing business has hurt the rural economy very badly in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala and Gujarat.” “Mr. Shah is a director in the Ahmedabad District Cooperative Bank. I didn’t say he deposited the money [himself]. The money was deposited in that bank,” he clarified. The Congress had demanded a White Paper and also a Joint Parliamentary Committee inquiry into the deposits made in all the banks by before November 8, and also deposits made immediately later.
