It all depends on how long you are using that credit card. If you are using that card for more than 6 yrs, I would suggest not to cancel the card  because that will effect your credit score. Credit score depends on how long you are maintaining the credit for. You can call them and ask to increase the limit on existing card rather opening a new card. If you apply for new credit card then your overall age of maintaining the credit cards will decrease and that will effect your score.
