I have friend who lived in north chennai lower middle class slums, got into IIT as a top ranking student, he graduated as a mediocre one, and tried to get a job there, was rebuffed. He then joined communist party, and is fighting in politics parttime to get latrine facilities for the 25,000 strong slum dwellers he used to live, besides working in a private company. He makes very little. His father still drives an autorickshaw, his brother works in a local factory. Their life is the same. He could've gone to the US and made a million dollar salary, if he wanted to. Quote
