‘Cruel AIADMK Govt Denying Kalaignar a Proper Send-off With Its Petty Politics’

Senior DMK leader and a member of his party’s legal team said that AIADMK is playing “petty politics” over the issue of M Karunanidhi’s burial.

Speaking to News18, A Saravanan, said, “They are doing petty politics over our leader’s death. We don’t even want to run to the courts. We want to be there next to our leader, pay him homage and give him a good send-off. But this cruel government is not allowing us to do this.”

His statements assume significance considering that his party, the DMK, has just moved the Madras High Court for an urgent hearing over the final resting place for the party patriarch. This followed the decision by the ruling party, the AIADMK, to not grant Karunanidhi a burial and a memorial at Marina beach.

When asked whether the DMK was playing a “**-for-tat” politics, given that the then Chief Minister Karunanidhi had denied a burial place for the Congress leader from Tamil Nadu K Kamaraj at the same spot where his followers now wanted Kalaignar to be buried, Saravanan said that his party only demanded their right.

The controversy over Karunanidhi’s burial erupted when the ruling AIADMK government turned down requests from the DMK for permission to bury him next to the grave of his mentor and DMK founder, CN Annadurai at Chennai's "Anna Square" memorial.

DMK supporters wanted Kalaignar buried in this very spot where former Chief Ministers CN Annadurai, MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa have also been laid to rest.

There was.talk about this from a very long time.... Karunanidhi always wanted to pass away being in power so that he gets place in Marina..... 

I think with this sympathy its going to be a cake walk for DMK in the coming elections ... if everything stays good between Stalin and Alagiri

Jayalalita ki kuda place ivvale kada..anduke MGR gadi samadhi lo ne kappettesaru ameni..not new one right.

Really ... I think they gave place for her after her death in 2016 by passing some orders/bills..... Anna... MGR and Jaya vunnaru ani anukuntunanu impati varaku.... They have a untold rule that... only if you die in power they will give place there..

 

Her last rites were performed on the evening of 6 December 2016 and she was interred in the northern end of the Marina Beach in Chennai in sandalwood casket, near the grave of her mentor M. G. Ramachandran.^[161

When AIADMK's chief minister Jayalalithaa died in December 2016, the ruling AIADMK had circumvented the rule by burying her in the existing memorial for her mentor and former chief minister MG Ramachandran.

DMK had argued in Court that they don't want MK to be buried near leaders of different ideologies, referring to Gandhi Mandapam where Kamraj was buried!! Cong is silent as also other "experts"--DMK is stìll a chauvinist party of street level brawlers:))) RT

He got laid at Marina ... i think he deserves that, if it (burial at mariana beach) really matters to Tamilians.
