dudes, I don't think BJP is a failure on economic or infra front. But if you insist Congress was a failure on that front in 2014, then by that standards, BJP is too.

I was consistent on why I supported BJP in 2014. It was because of its pro Hindu, pro federal stance. Not because they'll do wonders to economy.

No govt can, unless they focus on education and health, or give a free run to industrialists without bothering about pollution standards.

Modi infact, has made no 'structural' reforms, even though he promised that he would.

At best, he used his political capital to push certain fav projects of his. That's not 'reform'.

Posted

The only 'reforms' he did were in FDI, opening up several sectors. But it still hasn't amounted to much..

criticising Modi for rise in exchange rate is perfectly valid.

in other countries, and even in India in other circumstances, there would be revolution on the street at this level of drop in value.

That Modi personally built 1000 highways, 2000 flyovers, 20 metros, 1 bullet train, gave almost free internet via 4g,  is not an answer to rising trade deficit.

if a country of 1.2billion can't produce things they use for the most part, what's even the point.

Yes. structurally there's a problem with Indian economy. and its has to do with lots of unproductive wealth in it. building highways will not put that wealth to productive use. atleast not to the extent that will give a huge filip to India's trade account.

ahaan!! so this 'structural' reform is just India digging into its own resources to produce things of value.

Did other resource markets shut off for India or what? Can't import raw materials and manufacture stuff?

it is not just abt digging your own resources and selling.

its abt transportation/distribution logistics,  auction and allocation of mines etc there have been considerable policy changes, go and read mines act bill. I don't have time to educate illiterate morons

There's no need to read any bill. BJP stopped the then govt from functioning by crying about FDI, and coal scam, and implemented the same policies. okay. its politics.

But still Industrial production growth is still far below levels under UPA. All your transportation/logistics hasn't pushed India to a far higher Industrial output.

I don't care about mainstream media. They are all toeing the line of the govt.

That report has no specifics. Nevertheless, Industrial growth remains modest under Modi. so building couple extra highways means nothing in this discussion.

The glaring truth is that, India is probably the only Asian economy who's currency has slid with respect to the dollar. if you discount a very small slide by bangla. The slide is almost parallel to slide in Pakistan currency, a country which is understood to be a failed state.

major factor determining industrial production growth/output is - demand. that is not in modi's control. supply side bottle next are also a factor and is in govt control. modi govt acted on what's in it's control

lol. then every PM can make that claim.

the last time supply side bottleneck occured it was the handiwork of BJP in the opposition. When they made a hue and cry about faulty procedure in allocating coal blocks, and disrupted India's electricity sector.

And when they in power, they implemented the same hapahazard procedures, and went on like nothing happened. Same with 4G scam, in giving Ambani spectrum through some pr0xy.

btw, it is the job of the govt to take care of demand conditions in the economy. In fact, that is the biggest job. Its done through public investment. If everything you mistakenly refer to as 'reforms' were public investment in infra, the result is not showing through higher industrial activity in India. They are at levels much below those during UPA.

BJP is the same as Congress. It doesn't have any new ideas in governance.

Yes. Modi is India's Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto.

seeing how pak rupee slid almost the same as India's slid against dollar. I'd say India is on the way to becoming Pakistan.
