made it saleable in the eyes of middle class. filled a vaccuum in the HIndutva space that was left vacant after Congress became slowly secular (even if only for PR purposes).

behind those kind eyes, and a friendly smile, was a cutthroat politician who could rouse a mob with bigoted speeches.

Vajpayee set the stage for an even worse bigot like Modi to be able to run for office, without anyone blinking an eye.

If Modi wasn't around, one could've safely said that one half of the hate filled chapter is coming to a close.

but since Modi is around, and Vajpayee already without any influence in a party that he found, the only thing we can say is that..

Vajpayee created a monster that he couldnt control. That doesn't make him less of a monster than he is.
