A lot of desi folks do this and it is okay to take it. However…

Make sure it is not in your handbag.

Make sure it is open and separated out.

Make sure you keep it in a bag that doesn’t have other valuables because in case security holds it off, you don’t want to delay your other stuff in the bag.

I once carried it in my luggage and that one piece got picked up by security at Ft. Lauderdale airport. They sent it to me the next day via UPS but it as missing for a day. So, just keep that in mind.
