Tata Nano: End of the road for 'world's cheapest car'

Production of the Tata Nano, dubbed the "world's cheapest car," has been discontinued after selling only three cars in June. Launched as an affordable option for India's middle class, the car's "cheap" image backfired.

The ten-year journey of the Tata Nano, billed as the world's cheapest car, has come to an unceremonious end as the Tata Group, one of India's largest conglomerates, pulled the plug on production.

The compact car was the brainchild of Ratan Tata, the former chairman of Tata Group. He came up with the idea of an affordable car after he saw a family of four unsafely traveling on a rainy road in a two-wheeler.

When the compact vehicle was introduced in 2008, Tata wanted to offer millions of Indians the opportunity to own a car at the affordable price of 100,000 rupees (the equivalent of $2,200 or €1,900 at the time). The launch was received with fanfare in India and grabbed global attention.

The success of India itself is making things cheap...if we don't have that advantage anymore, it would be trouble times ahead...

Toyota also should end manufacturing Rav4. feels the same as nano when you drive on the interstate.

Too much cheap cheskuntu pothey China ki ochina peru ostundi....if we achieve as a Reliable Brand.....we can promote our products very easily.

They promoted this car as most affordable instead of a car..

 

Poor reviews and design...made it common man is purchasing a auto rickshaw.
