Peddacheruvu holds enough water to tide over this summer

The people of this tiny mandal headquarters are elated this summer as they will not be forced to tread long distances to fetch water or even worry about it.

Thanks to the Mission Kakatiya, the Kuravi Peddacheruvu now holds enough water to pass this season. However, people here ask for more from the State government. They want the Mission Kakatiya programme to include this tank again in second phase to further improve its water holding capacity.

A resident of Kuravi, N Jagadeeswar said there were ten tanks under the Pedda cheruvu. If it gets filled, the water will flow down and fill all the tanks one by one. “If this Peddacheruvu is full, half of the mandal will not have drinking water problem as the tanks in Tirumalapuram, Nallela, Mogilicherla, Rajolu, Kampalli and Talla Sankeesa get water,” he explained.

The Peddacheruvu is spread over on 100 acres of land and is just one kilometer to the historic Lord Veerabhadra Swamy temple. It has got excellent potential for development into a tourist spot. “It can be developed like Tankbund. It will attract more pilgrims to this town,” Mr Jagadeeswar opined. Another resident Ch Srinivas who owns a shop near the temple said the Mission Kakatiya helped store some water in tank.

The government should continue the programme for two more seasons so that the whole of the tank gets desilted. “The tank will regain its glory if it is included in Mission Kakatiya for two more seasons. There will be no water problem in near future,” he told The Hindu . Other residents want the tank to be converted into a big reservoir with facility to fill all the chain of tanks down the stream in villages.

Sub: Gudi cheruvu destroyed – No water for holy dip for people visiting Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple, Vemulawada, Siricilla district
Ref: 1) GO 803 dt 25.9.2017 sanctioning 90 crores for ‘conversion of Gudi Cheruvu as Mini Tank Bund, Vemulawada(V&M), RajannaSiricilla district.’

Gudi cheruvu(Temple tank) of Siricilla district, which was meant for channelizing water into the Dharma Gundam(sacred lake) inside the temple for the holy dip of the devotees who visit Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple, have been deprived of basic facility of water in Dharma Gundam. Devotees who have visited have told that there is dirty water in dharma gundam and no water in Gudi cheruvu.

Irregularities noticed at the outset are as follows:

1- In 2015, 9 crores were sanctioned for Gudi cheruvu in Phase I of Mission Kakatiya, that was cancelled in 2016 vide GO 268 dt 4.2.2016.

Further, In 2017 90 crores has been sanctioned for Gudi cheruvu vide GO 803 dt. 25.9.2017 in Mission kakatiya Phase II for ‘ ‘conversion of Gudi Cheruvu as Mini Tank Bund, Vemulawada(V&M), RajannaSiricilla district.’

This is a 10 times increase in sanction of the funds, which needs justification and investigation.

2- Mission Kakatiya Helpline 040-23472233 does not work. The other mobile numbers given in contact do not answer/switched off. Officials are not unable to give project report.

4- Project report for work components is not available on website http://missionkakatiya.cgg.gov.in/missionkakatiya, except tank details as attached, that is not very user friendly.

5- This is yet another example of failure of Mission Kakatiya involving huge amount of 90 crores. Whereas, Inflow channels of the lake were not restored which is one of main work component as per the mission kakatiya work guide lines given in GO 44 dt 13.3.2015.

6- We demand a social, work and financial audit of Mission Kakatiya works done this far and prompt investigation for 90 crores sanctioned for Gudi cheruvu.

7- We demand that inflow channels of the Gudi chervu be restored immediately and ensure promptly that clean water is provided to Dharma Gundam.

8- Endowments Department is answerable for not ensuring that water channel from Gudi cheruvu to temple is live and running for devotees and tourists.

9- It is crime of huge proportions that a lake is being concretized and killed in this manner. Mission Kakatiya funds are diverted in name of ‘restoration of lakes’ for ‘Mini tankbunds’ that is not a mandate at all.
