Starting lo koncham sambar smell...ochindi tarvata chala baga handle chesadu VD charecter ni.....Story mostly Tamilnadu lo jarigina incidents but bagga chupinchaaru.

Story is very good much better than stupid BAN movie.

the story has a very good scope but ruined by mundane execution, could have made more interesting by adding some more twists and thrills like short film escape, should have had stronger opponents characters with better screen presence, eliminate sister character very annoying, unwanted scrap like falsh back ❤️ da stroies

Movie hit in Tamil....Mission accomplished for Vega Star VD.

It was a straight Tamil film, it struck the chord with the people.

Anything from Telugu audience is just bonus.

After delivering impressive performances in Pelli Choopulu, Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindam, Vijay Deverakonda had a lot riding on NOTA, which was promoted as a Tamil-Telugu bilingual.

However, the Telugu audience would be in for a shock to find out that NOTA is merely a Tamil-dubbed film.

 

Director Anand Shankar's NOTA has a simple storyline: a happy youngster who is forced to become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The film follows Varun's (Vijay Deverakonda) life and how he realises his responsibilities and works for the betterment of the people.

This might seem good on paper but the execution falters in NOTA. Though the film is impressive in parts, there are several logical loopholes which put you off for the most part.

Even after taking oath as the Chief Minister, Varun spends two weeks doing absolutely nothing. In fact, he is the most human character in NOTA. He is not shown as a god-like character just because he is the CM of Tamil Nadu.

He drinks and has fun with his friends at home and even plays FIFA. Unlike his father Subramanian Vasudev (Nasser), he is compassionate and considerate towards the feelings of the public. This sets him apart from the corrupt politicians who are money-mongers.

In NOTA, all it takes is the death of a child for Varun to realise the seriousness of his stature. It is then that he realises he has the power to control the wrongdoings in society. The transformation scene was brilliant to watch and Vijay Deverakonda was almost flawless as Varun. But it doesn't make sense for the CM of a state to lose his cool in front of the media and be cool with being called as a 'Rowdy CM'.

Varun takes the help of Mahendran (Sathyaraj) who acts as an advisor to the CM. He is like a father figure to Varun, helping him in every step of his new career. This role is a cakewalk to a veteran actor like Sathyaraj and he does it with elan.

Kayal Varadarajan (an impressive Sanchana Natarajan), as the opposition leader, does her job perfectly. In fact, her character is the one who re-routes Varun in the right direction.

Mahendran and Subramaniyan have a backstory and there is an interesting flashback about the relationship they share. But when the big reveal happens, it does not have much impact, as we could easily predict what was coming from the scene shown before.

The film takes a dig at politicians and yogis in the state and it is quite surprising for NOTA to be censored with a U certificate. NOTA's strengths are its political sequences which reflect the absurd happenings in Tamil Nadu over the last couple of years.

A major drawback in NOTA is that it lacks logical reasoning. In one scene, the police officials escort Varun when they come to know that he has been named as the Chief Minister. However, in another scene, he is seen standing in an open balcony of a hospital. When have we ever seen a CM like this in public?

In many political thrillers, the son of the CM is the obvious choice of being the next in line, even if he doesn't possess any experience. If only directors thought differently.

NOTA could have been a great political thriller if the director had done away with cinematic clichés.

Vijay Deverakonda is the only saving grace in director Anand Shankar's NOTA, which has many unfeasible ideas, says our review.
