Poor turn out at Chiru meet

It was a bitter and humiliating experience for Praja Rajyam Party president and Tirupati MLA Chiranjeevi at Tirupati on Saturday.

As he landed in the constituency, Chiranjeevi wanted to address the party cadres and rejuvenate them to participate in the party activities. Just f a few lower-rung leaders came to the meeting held at the residence of a local PRP leader, while most of the cadres stayed away from his visit.

A PRP leader said that despite repeated calls to the cadres, they did not turn up at the party workers meeting. With great difficulty, the local leaders could mobilise just about 200 workers. A greatly disappointed Chiru, however, tried to put up a brave face and enthuse the cadres. “Those who encourage the PRP and give the cadres moral courage are the ones who are real workers. Our struggle and goals for the public good would continue. The party would be strengthened and readied for agitations towards positive direction. A day would come when the people would really feel for not giving an opportunity to PR to rule the state,” he said.

Later, Mr Chiranjeevi clarified that the party was ready to launch agitations against the state government’s anti-poor policies, including the skyrocketing of the prices of essential commodities. “We are ready to join with any forces with the like mindset,” he said.
