We used to have one, we never milked it. We only milk it either for Abhishekam or for Nagulachavithi. 

 

if it is our Buffalo, it's a different story altogether.

For Buffalo's, we leave half (2 rommulu) for the first 1-2 months,  and get milk from the other 2. Once it eats grass, we decrease it gradually 

 

Even if the Calf drinks all the milk, it happens at times when we don't tie them properly,  it can't digest and then it will have health issues.
