Sardar Vallabhai Patel banned RSS after Mahatma Gandhi got assassinated by Nathuram Godse in 1948. Ban got lifted after the investigation where it got proved that Godse left RSS in 1946, and the encouragement he got was from Hindu Mahasabha. (He was an active member in Hindu Mahasabha along with RSS).
