I agree.. North west is really Wild west .. there won't be any gas stations or rest area in 30/40/50 miles range.. and november/december/january not advisable..

 

I drove below routes:

  LA to Dallas

Dallas to Portland

Dallas to Indianapolis

Dallas to Orlando

Indianapolis to Tampa

Indianapolis to Atlantic City

 

denverto Portland is difficult one.. I think PA-WA in November/December will be challenging one as you will be driving along north border states.

If it is south .. I would suggest you to drive anytime
