You mean extension after 6 months ? You have to apply renewal.  Traveling to neighboring countries like Canada/Jamaica/Mexico or third country for short duration will not get them new i94.

Pro: Obviously they get to stay more

Cons: They could get denied. Next time vachedappudu POE lo chavagottachu kuchobetti. Many extend so not an issue.

I-539 anukunta...make sure you submit this form atleast 3 weeks before current I-94 expire date (45days recommended antaru) Receipt notice vasthe they can legally stay until final decision. ee madya decision ivvataniki chaala months paduthundi. Naa friend parents ki apply chesaru last yr....valla I-94 expiry ki 3 weeks mundu. Receipt notice vachaka they waited 5 months....online status chusthe Case Received ani undi..ah tharuvatha eppudu chusina same status...eventually valla next 6 months stay kuda deggariki vachindi...and they left to India.

case pending undi kada ani enni months padithe anni months undodhu....max inko 6 months extension allowed with receipt notice...kani its better they leave early. Next time malli POE lo prob undadhu. 

heard a case where somebody's parents applied extension twice when they arrived in US....and each time they stayed close to 1 yr with extension. 3rd time malli US vachetappudu POE lo adigaaru....ee saari kuda meeru extn. apply chesthunnara ani.....CBP officer gave them 1 month stay without possibility of applying for extension anta.
