Rahul skips CBN’s breakfast at Park Hayat

Though sharing politics and election campaign with Telugu Desam Party president Chandrababu Naidu, Congress president Rahul Gandhi seems to have found himself uncomfortable to share a breakfast offered by him. Chandrababu Naidu, who is camping in Hyderabad for the electioneering, had invited Rahul Gandhi for breakfast in the Hyderabad’s Park Hayat Hotel on Thursday morning.

Initial reports say that Rahul Gandhi had agreed to attend and had accepted the invitation. However, in the last minute the breakfast meeting was cancelled as Rahul Gandhi was unavailable. “Rahul Gandhi was indispensable for the breakfast meeting.

Chandrababu Naidu finds himself comfortable in the company of Rahul Gandhi who is younger to him and who depends on him to take on the mighty BJP and Narendra Modi in the 2019 electoral battle. The two leaders have addressed a couple of election meetings in Telangana in the last two days and the Congress-TDP leaders are flying high on the election heat generated with the combined campaign of the two.

However, the skipping of the breakfast meeting by Rahul Gandhi shows or at least indicates that the Congress president is yet to have confidence on the trustworthiness of Chandrababu Naidu. The TDP chief is known for his opportunistic politics and switching loyalties frequently. He is more a known friend of BJP and enemy of the Congress over the years.

But, fearing attack by the BJP ahead of the next election, Chandrababu Naidu had walked into the Congress house seeking friendship. However, the Congress considers his presence as an attempt to escape and avoid investigation into corruption rather than defeating the BJP. It is here the Congress is understood to have smelled the intensions of Chandrababu Naidu.

As BJP leader and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh declared in the Parliament, Chandrababu Naidu is a close friend of the BJP. His differences now are with Narendra Modi and not with the BJP. If the BJP changes Narendra Modi’s candidature either before the elections are later, it is for sure that Chandrababu Naidu would dump everyone and land on the BJP’s lap. This is what the corridors of the Congress talk and this had reportedly reached Rahul Gandhi to skip the breakfast.

Majority of the Congress leaders in Delhi strongly believe that Chandrababu Naidu is not a trustworthy friend. They also caution Rahul Gandhi about this and that is what had led to the cancellation of the Park Hayat’s breakfast meeting.
