Even Maniratnam is solely depending on star power....in his recent movies like Dil se, Yuva, Guru, Raavan

Sekhar Kammula is one director who has made his mark.....with good movies like Godavari, Anand, Leader in TFI

The ques is about the best director and not commercially successful director. RGV n Mani ratnam have always tried to make movies intelligently and objectively..with shankar, all his movies revolve around an evil in the society..he might be a commercial director, but systemic issues r solved by eliminating individuals which is pretty dumb..but cant take away the fact tht he's very successful..

yuva time ki akkada pedda stars evaru leru..i wont agree tht surya is a bigger brand than mani ratnam at the time yuva was made..same goes with guru..appatiki abishek had done sarkar i guess..adokkate manchi performance unna role..guru made him a real actor..

Mani dependent on star power kadhu mama. he is going for bigger subjects like terrorism, riches to rags kind of movies. Guru movie star lekapothe chandalamga vutundhi. So he is opting for stars.
