Maniratnam is one over hyped director.

A trendsetter in the 90's antaru kani it was scriptwriters and music directors who were behind Maniratnam.

he is way behind...an out dated director by 15 years atleast

aapu inka. if maniratnam is overhyped, then who's underplayed?

the problem with maniratnam is not his presentation, but his lack of substance, and general reckless treatment of serious issues he makes films of.

no director of the 80s, 90s, and even 2000s comes even close to maniratnam in style. but he's stuck in a bubble. and it seems he is a typical manager, than someone who aspires to understand the issues he wishes to film on.

yeah maniratnam is overrated, but that can be said about any other director too. almost anyone. I can't think of a single indian director who's good.

this particular film was by far his worst. because he didn't even try.

but it seems it's his most successful film till date in terms of revenue. lucky fellow.

Ade kada chepindi...2000 varaku okay..atarvata  he is lost.

As if struck in hibernation and woke up and making movies again. Its a creative field and one needs to get updated with trend...or else, no matter how creative you were once, will only fade away...

Mani Ratnam is no exception.

I think Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the only one who has better visual taste than Maniratnam. and he mostly films on sets.

Maniratnam has a huge canvas, and his political commentary is like a 75yr old mylapore tambram uncle.

this aspect of his direction is what kills his movies. Even he knows it.

but he can't shake off his uppercaste buddhi. too bad. paapam.

this particular movie seems to have been directed by his assistants. like he didn't even care.

it shows on the screen.

actors moving without purpose.. dialogues that have no point, story threads left hanging in the middle by the dozen.

haha..

Which movie are you talking about ?

whats that movie with Nitya menon.. haha..

that movie looks like it was entirely directed by Nitya menon, and Manirathnam was just dozing behind the camera.

I heard her mention it too, indirectly in an interview

when asked which was the better experience.. this mani movie, or the other horror movie kanchana something.. she simply said that Kanchana was much more challenging, and left it at that.

haha.. she's right. Mani is over. pls retire.
